+ What is an Incubator?
An Incubator works with aspiring entrepreneurs to develop disruptive ideas with the hope of building out a business model and company. Incubators are fixed-term, cohort-based programs that offer intensive training, mentorship, and co-working space. The programs culminate in a demo day, where the entrepreneurs present their streamlined, late-early stage business pitches to investors, accelerators, and the entrepreneurial community who have resources to take the company into its later stages.
+ What is the BIG Incubator Program?
The BIG Incubator Program is a 26 week business incubator program for up to 20 startups led by Black and Latina women. BIG provides a structured curriculum based on Lean Start-Up methodologies that will take you from an idea to a viable business. It's packed with learning, experience, mentorship by top leaders, speakers, and networking. It culminates with Demo Day where entrepreneurs will pitch directly to investors and BIG’s Pathway Partners.
+ How long is the program?
The BIG Incubator Program begins February 2018 with START weekend and ends early December 2018 with Demo Day.
+ What does the program look like?
The program spans 3 modules focused on Customer Development, Product Development and Company Development.
+ Is there a fee for the program?
Yes. The fee for START weekend is $99. It includes a weekend of programming, mentorship, networking, and experience developing the Business Model Canvas, including feedback and mentoring from entrepreneurial leaders. The fee is payable at the time of your acceptance/confirmation of attendance for the weekend. It is non-refundable.
The fee for each of the three modules of the BIG Incubator is $500. It includes a membership to BIG’s co-working space during the time of that module; participation in the Incubator’s programs; participation in a range of other BIG events (Innovation Thursdays) for the program’s duration; and access to other community events. A $150 deposit is payable at the time of your acceptance/confirmation of participation. The program deposit/fees are nonrefundable.
+ How can I make my application stand out?
Here are several application tips to help your entry stand out from the rest.
Be you in your responses. Ideas morph and change. Topics can be learned. It’s you that will move your first idea into something more, more again and into a viable company.
Take your time to write thoughtful, clear, detailed, and well-written responses to the questions.

+ Do I need to live in Atlanta during the program?
The program takes place in Atlanta with program components offered throughout the week. Residing in Atlanta will make the program more accessible and rich, but that being said, we’ve watched creative women do what they need to do.
+ I’m not a Black or Latina Woman, can I still apply?
If you have an idea partner who is a Black or Latina woman and that founder is an equal and/or majority equity partner, then she may apply and you may attend as her co-founders.
+ Does the program offer investment?
BIG does not offer investment. However, select companies may receive investment from partners such as Harriet Angels and Harriet Fund.
+ Does the program offer housing?
No. But we can identify housing options.
+ Does the program offer childcare?
We do not offer in-house childcare support at this time, but we’ll be happy to provide assistance by introducing you to excellent outside groups that offer this service.
+ When are applications open?
They are open now. Go here.
+ When do the applications close?
After 40 founders have been accepted.
+ Do I have to have a company to apply?
No. Remember, the program begins with the idea.
+ Do I have to have a technology to apply?
No, but the idea, either the one you have now or the one that will develop, needs to include a significant technology component which may mean a specific technology and/or using technology to access customers, deliver products (i.e. mobile, internet-based).
+ What is the participant selection process?
Participants are selected in a 2-step process.
First step is the application.
Second step is START weekend. The participants will be immersed in developing and presenting ideas, and getting feedback. After this weekend, 20 women will be accepted into the cohort. Follow us on Twitter or Facebook for the most updated dates.
+ How are the decisions made?
We consider your idea, problem you want to address, or other starting point for the program. Given that the hustle, courage, resilience, brains, commitment, motivation and personal growth of the entrepreneur are primary ingredients for success at this stage.
+ When will I know if I’m selected?
Applicants invited to BIG’s START weekend will be notified no later than January 28, 2018. Your place will be confirmed and held once payment is made.
